AUGUSTA,
Ga. - Augusta State head men’s basketball coach Dip Metress announced Tuesday the third signee of the spring recruiting period.
Charles Robinson, a 6-8, 185-pound forward from Vance High School in Charlotte, N.C., has signed a national letter-of-intent to join the Jaguar men’s basketball program beginning with the Fall, 2010 semester.
Robinson averaged 8 points and 7 rebounds per game last season and helped lead the Cougars to an 18-7 record.
“Charles is a bouncy interior athlete that we are going to redshirt this upcoming year,” said Metress. “He is very long and his best basketball is ahead of him. In our program, many redshirt players have thrived toward the end of their career and we envision him in that same manner.
“In building programs for the long haul, it is imperative that you find players like Charles. The following players at one time redshirted in our program: Demetrius Howard, Steve Smith, Garret Siler, Howard Brown, Travis Keels and Tye Beal. These players have all been the reason we’ve been able to win championships.”
The Jags return five letterwinners from a nucleus that amassed a 110-23 record over the last four seasons. In 2009-10, ASU registered a 29-4 mark, captured the Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship, reached the Elite Eight for the third consecutive season and was ranked No. 1 in the nation on two separate occasions.
