AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State’s Karim Telfer was named the Peach Belt
Conference’s Player-of-the-Week Monday, according to an announcement from the league office.
A 6-1 senior guard from Brooklyn, N.Y., Telfer averaged 19.5 ppg., 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game for the Jaguars in a pair of games last week. He tallied 21 points, six rebounds and four assists in a 68-62 loss at Tusculum on Tuesday, Dec. 6, then posted 18 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds in a 61-60 home loss Saturday to PBC foe Georgia College & State.
Telfer leads the Jaguars in scoring at 14.9 ppg., assists (6.0 apg.), steals (1.4 spg.) and minutes played (35.0 mpg.). He has paced ASU in scoring in in three of its first seven games.
The Jags break for final exams before returning to action this weekend. The Lady Jaguars host Claflin in a single game on Friday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m. before both teams take on Paine College on Saturday, Dec. 17. ASU faces the Lady Lions at 5:30 p.m., with the men’s contest scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse. Paine edged the Jags 62-58 on Nov. 19 in Carter Gymnasium in the season opener for both teams.
