| Augusta State makes first appearance in South Atlantic Region poll |

AUGUSTA, Ga.-- With wins in five of its last six games, Augusta State has cracked the
regional rankings for the first time this season in the latest South Atlantic Region poll.
The Jaguars (9-8 overall, 5-5 in the PBC), who produced their highest point total of the season in Wednesday’s 89-86 victory over North Georgia in Christenberry Fieldhouse, have won three straight road games and have already matched last season’s road win total of four.
Virginia Union is ranked first in the South Atlantic Region at 12-1. Six Peach Belt Conference teams make up the poll, including No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic State, No. 3 USC Upstate, No. 4 Georgia College & State, No. 5 Columbus State, No. 6 Clayton State and ASU at No. 10.
ASU currently sports a 2-4 record against the region’s ranked teams, having defeated No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic State on Monday, Jan. 23 in Savannah and No. 7 Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte, N.C. on Dec. 3.
Sophomore forward Tyrekus Bowman paces the Jaguars in scoring at 14.2 ppg. and in rebounding at 8.0 rpg. Redshirt freshman guard Matt Scott is second on the team in scoring at 12.5 ppg. and ranks eighth in the nation in three-pointers made per game at 3.5. Senior guard Karim Telfer, who matched his season high in scoring with 21 points vs. North Georgia, is third on the squad in scoring at 12.0 ppg. and ranks 11th in the nation in assists per game at 6.5.
The Jaguars are idle Saturday, but return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1 when they host Armstrong Atlantic State in the second game of a doubleheader that begins with the women’s contest at 5:30 p.m.
