AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State head basketball coach Dip Metress announced Tuesday that Daniel Dixon has
signed a national letter-of-intent to play for the Jaguars beginning in the fall of 2006. He is the third
signee of the spring period for Metress, who led the Jaguars to a 15-13 record in 2005-06, his second season
at the helm of the ASU men’s basketball program.
A 5-foot-9, 150-pound guard from Falls Church, Va., Dixon averaged 16 points and 2. 5 assists per game as a senior and team captain for Marshall High School. As a senior, he helped lead Marshall to a 20-10 record and a berth in the Class AAA state semifinals. He was a first team All-Liberty District selection as well as a Northern Region All-Tournament team pick. He has been selected to play in the Capital Classic Suburban All-Star Game.
“Daniel is what our program has been missing the last two years in terms of quickness and speed,” Metress said. “He has the ability to generate easy buckets and is an extremely talented player. When I saw him play, he controlled the whole pace of the game. We are elated that he has chosen Augusta State.”
Dixon is the third member of the Jags' spring signing class, joining Howard Brown, a 6-6 forward from Urban Christian Academy in Savannah, Ga., and Kip Small, a 5-11 guard from Keenan High in Columbia, S.C.
The Jaguars return two starters and nine lettermen from last year’s squad that finished sixth in the Peach Belt Conference regular-season standings and advanced to the PBC Tournament quarterfinals.
