HICKORY, N.C. -- Catawba snapped Augusta State’s four-game winning streak Saturday afternoon with a 92-70 victory over the Jaguars in the second day of the Lenoir-Rhyne/Moretz Classic at Shuford Gymnasium.

The loss dropped the Jags to 8-3 while Catawba improved to 5-6. The Indians held ASU to its lowest scoring output of the season and forced a season-high 32 turnovers by the Jags. The 92 points were the most allowed by ASU and the 22-point loss was its largest margin of defeat. The contest also marked the end of the Jags’ non-conference schedule.

Freshman guard Ben Madgen was the only ASU player in double figures with 13 points. Junior forward Tyrekus “AJ” Bowman – the squad’s leading scorer at 22.4 ppg. – was limited to just eight points in 16 minutes of action due to foul trouble.

Chris Wooldridge led five Catawba players in double figures with 18 points.

ASU trailed 54-41 at halftime as both teams shot over 50 percent in the first half. Catawba scored 11 of the first 13 points in the second half and led by as much as 29. The Indians scored 50 points off ASU turnovers.

The Jags open their Peach Belt Conference schedule on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, when they host Columbus State in a doubleheader in Christenberry Fieldhouse, beginning with the women’s contest at 5:30 p.m.
