Bowman Snags Third PBC Honor
Augusta State junior forward named Peach Belt Conference's Player-of-the-Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State’s Tyrekus “AJ” Bowman was named the Peach Belt Conference’s Player-of-the-Week Tuesday afternoon, according to an announcement from the league office.

The award is the third of the season for Bowman, a 6-5, 185-pound junior forward from Tignall, Ga. Bowman is the first player in the league to be honored by the PBC three times this season and is the first Jaguar in school history to earn the award three times in a single season. The last PBC player to be named POTW three times in the same season was Columbus State’s Yandel Brown in 2004-05.

Bowman averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals and 2.5 blocks per game in a pair of Jaguar victories over Georgia College & State and at Francis Marion. In the Jags’ 76-45 win over GCSU, he posted 23 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks for his third double-double of the season. He then backed up that effort with 15 points, 11 boards and four steals in a 79-63 victory at FMU for his fourth double-double. For the week, he shot 51.7 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Bowman currently ranks in the top six in the PBC in five different categories. He ranks first in the PBC in scoring (20.3 ppg.), sixth in the league in rebounding (7.8 rpg.) and field goal percentage (.502), third in steals (2.2 spg.) and fifth in blocked shots (1.5 bpg.). He also ranks 30th nationally in scoring.

The Jags, off to their second-best start in school history at 16-3 overall and 8-0 in the PBC, begin a three-game homestand on Wed., Jan. 31 when they take on No. 25 Armstrong Atlantic State. The women’s contest tips off the PBC doubleheader at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s matchup at 7:30 p.m.
