AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State will play host to its first-ever NCAA postseason event this weekend when the Jaguars compete in the Division II South Atlantic Regional in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
ASU, the Peach Belt Conference regular-season champions and a PBC Tournament semifinalist, is making its third trip to the Big Dance in the last seven years and its first since 2002. The Jags are one of four Peach Belt Conference teams to reach the NCAA’s, tying a conference record. The PBC previously sent four teams to the national tournament in 2004 and 2006.
The Jags (23-6) will enter the tourney as the regional’s top seed and will face No. 8 Elizabeth City State University on Sat., March 10 at 6:00 p.m. The Vikings captured the CIAA Tournament title with a 63-60 upset victory over Virginia Union on Sat., March 3 in Charlotte, N.C.
The South Atlantic Regional will consist of four sessions and include seven games over a four-day stretch. Clayton State (23-6), the No. 3 seed, and sixth-seeded Catawba (20-10) will tip off regional play at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. At 2:30 p.m., No. 2 Virginia Union (21-5) and No. 7 Lander (20-10) will meet in the second game of Session One.
ASU and ECSU (16-15) will square off in the first game of the second session at 6 p.m. before No. 4 Armstrong Atlantic State (21-8) and No. 5 seed Wingate (22-8) wrap up the first day’s play at 8:30 p.m.
Advance ticket sales -- all tickets are $10 and are general admission -- will go on sale beginning Tuesday, March 6. Children ages two and under will be admitted free.
