ASU's Bowman Selected All-American
Junior forward becomes first Jaguar to earn national honors since 1970

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State’s Tyrekus “AJ” Bowman has been named an NABC All-American, according to a recent announcement from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

The honor is the second major award for Bowman in the last two weeks. He was named the State of Georgia Men’s College Player Of The Year on March 27 and was honored during the annual Naismith Awards Banquet on April 5 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

A junior forward from Tignall, Ga., Bowman led ASU to the second-winningest season in school history and was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year after leading the league in scoring at 20.4 ppg. during the regular season. He led the Jaguars to a 24-8 overall record and the PBC regular-season championship while propelling ASU to a top seed in the NCAA South Atlantic Regional, the third NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. Bowman was an All-South Atlantic Region first-team selection-- the only player from the PBC selected to the squad – making him eligible for All-America honors.

In addition, Bowman ranked in the top 10 in seven PBC statistical categories, including scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage. He eclipsed the 1,000-point milestone with 29 points at Columbus State on Feb. 14 and poured in a career-high 33 points vs. Cheyney on Dec. 9, 2006. He scored in double figures in 30 of 31 games, produced 18 games with 20 or more points and posted six double-doubles.

Bowman is the first Jaguar in the history of the men’s basketball program to be named an All-American by the NABC and the first player since Joe McBride and Chip Johnson in 1970 to earn national honors of any kind.
