AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State men's basketball head coach Dip Metress
announced Tuesday that Virginia prep product Caleb Brown will join the
Jaguar program for the Fall, 2007 semester.
A 6-4, 202-pound wing player from Dumfries, Va., Brown averaged 16 points and seven rebounds per game as a senior at Forest Park High School. Brown earned All-Cardinal District first team honors and was also an All-Potomac News Area first-team selection and an All-Northwest Region first-team pick. A three-year varsity starter, Brown scored over 1,000 points in his prep career.
"Caleb is a strong, athletic wing player who is physically ready to play at our level," Metress said. "He has a lot of upside and the fact that he played on the perimeter in high school will help his transition into our program. We feel the state of Virginia has been good to us again with another prospect that will have an impact on our program."
Brown joins Winthrop transfer Jason Killeen along with prep guards Tom Wright and Tye Beal as newcomers to the Jaguar program.
Augusta State, which finished the 2006-07 season ranked No. 18 in the nation, is coming off the second-winningest season in the history of the men's basketball program. The Jags posted a 24-7 record and climbed as high as No. 8 in the national rankings en route to winning the Peach Belt Conference regular season championship and earning the top seed in the NCAA South Atlantic Regional.
The Jags return all five starters and 10 lettermen, including Tyrekus "AJ" Bowman, a 6-5 forward who earned All-America honors as a junior and was named the Georgia Player Of The Year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club as well as the Peach Belt Conference Player Of The Year.
