Siler Named League's POTW
Jaguar junior center tallied career-high 30 points Saturday

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State’s Garret Siler was named the first Peach Belt Conference Player-of-the-Week for the 2007-08 season Monday afternoon, according to an announcement from the league office.

A 6-11, 304-pound junior center from Augusta, Siler led the sixth-ranked Jaguars to a 2-0 record in last weekend’s UM Coca-Cola Classic in Montevallo, Ala. Siler began the season with a 12-point, nine-rebound, four-block effort in ASU’s 79-72 victory over host Montevallo on Friday, Nov. 16.

He then followed up that performance by scoring a career-high 30 points, including the game-winning three-point play with 2.5 seconds remaining, as the Jags rallied from behind to defeat Florida Southern 76-75 in overtime on Saturday, Nov. 17. He also snagged 13 rebounds and recorded four blocked shots against the Moccasins. For the weekend, he shot 79.2 percent from the field (19-of-24) while averaging 21.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks

The victories helped ASU improve to 8-3 vs. nationally-ranked opponents under fourth-year head coach Dip Metress. The Jags’ 2-0 start is their third 2-0 start in the last four seasons.

ASU makes its 2007-08 home debut on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 4:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse against Johnson C. Smith.
