Jaguars at Tampa Saturday; Lady Jags host Anderson Sunday

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State men’s and women’s basketball teams resume their 2007-08 seasons this weekend when they return to action in a pair of non-conference games.

The Jaguars (6-2) have not played since a 76-74 road win over No. 22 Virginia Union on Saturday, Dec.

15. ASU, ranked 12th in the nation in the latest NABC/Coaches poll, will face a Tampa squad at 4:00 p.m. Saturday that sports an identical 6-2 mark and is coming off back-to-back victories. The Spartans returned from a nine-day holiday break with a 91-61 win over McMaster on Thursday, Dec. 27.

ASU is 2-2 on the road this season and 1-0 against Sunshine State Conference opponents. The Jags edged Florida Southern 76-75 in overtime on Nov. 17 in Montevallo, Ala. ASU and Tampa haven’t met since the 1969-70 season when the Jags claimed a 90-81 win in Tampa, Fla.

The Lady Jaguars are looking for a 6-2 start of their own. They have won three straight and five of their last six after opening the season with a loss. They will end a 13-day break when they take on Anderson on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 3:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Anderson (7-1) hasn’t played since defeating Claflin 70-58 on Dec. 16 in Anderson, S.C. The Lady Trojans were ranked in the top 25 in the nation earlier this season and received the most votes of any team in the nation not appearing in the latest WBCA poll.

The Lady Jaguars won 79-59 over Converse on Monday, Dec. 17 in Spartanburg, S.C. Sophomore guard Brittany Jarrard paced ASU with 15 points, while Deo Ngulela and Sherika Parker added 12 each.
