TAMPA, Fla. -- Augusta State rallied back from a double-digit halftime deficit Saturday before falling 89-75 to Tampa in a non-conference road contest.

The 12th-ranked Jaguars (6-3) trailed by as many as 16 points after a pair of Tampa free throws just before halftime. ASU fought back, opening the second half with an 11-2 run to get within seven on a Daniel Dixon 3-pointer at the 17:06 mark.

The Spartans (7-2) pushed their lead back to 11 before the Jags answered with an 11-0 run, knotting the game at 55-all on a Ben Madgen trey at the 10:29 mark. Tampa jumped back ahead by five before ASU again responded, rattling off 10 unanswered points to take a 67-62 lead on a Garret Siler three-point play with 7:22 remaining.

The Spartans countered with consecutive 3-pointers to regain the lead at 68-67 with 5:59 left before an AJ Bowman tip-in put the Jags ahead 69-68 at the 5:38 mark. Bowman’s basket marked ASU’s last lead of the game.

A dunk by Bowman 90 seconds later pulled the Jags to within one before Tampa scored six straight points to go up 78-71 with 2:27 remaining. ASU never got closer than four the rest of the way, as 11 of the Spartans’ last 15 points came from the foul line.

Bowman poured in a season-high 32 points, one off his career-high in scoring. Siler posted his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Madgen added 13 points and five assists.

Jeremy Black paced four Spartans in double figures with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Johnathan Ball registered 18 points, while Chris King and Chris Evans notched 17 and 12 points, respectively.

The Jags enjoyed a 49-37 edge in rebounding, but were just 12-of-20 at the free-throw line. Tampa was 38-of-47 at the charity stripe and benefited from 18 ASU turnovers.

The Jags return to action next weekend when they resume Peach Belt Conference play vs. Clayton State at 7:30 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
