AUGUSTA, Ga. -- North Georgia handed Augusta State its first home loss of the season Monday night with a 75-71 upset win in Peach Belt Conference action at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The Saints got 26 points from Andre Morgan while Nick Pope and Anthony Rowe added 12 and 10, respectively. NGCSU improved to 9-7 overall and to 4-5 in the PBC.

Senior forward Tyrekus “AJ” Bowman booked a game-high 27 points, but was the only Jaguar to score in double figures. Bowman extended his streak of consecutive games in double figures to 37, while sophomore Ben Madgen’s streak ended at 16 with his nine-point effort.

The loss dropped ASU to 13-4 and 8-2, respectively, and snapped a seven-game winning streak and a six-game home winning streak.

“If you don’t play hard, that’s what happens,” ASU head coach Dip Metress said. “It’s disappointing to come home after a conference road win and and play so bad. We lost some focus between Saturday and tonight and we weren’t mentally prepared to play. Hopefully it’s a lesson learned. We just need to get back on track against Georgia College & State.”

ASU led 59-58 after a Garret Siler monster dunk with 3:28 to play. After the score, Siler was whistled for a technical foul, and Morgan hit two free throws and Anthony Rowe followed with a layup to put the Saints ahead 62-59.

A Nick Pope 3-pointer from long range with 1:42 left remaining NGCSU up 66-61. Daniel Dixon and Demetrius Howard each canned 3-pointers to keep the Jags within striking distance, with Howard’s trey pulling ASU to within 73-71 with 11 seconds left.

After the Jaguars fouled on the inbounds play, Morgan connected on a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left for the final margin of victory.

The Jaguars travel to Milledgeville, Ga., to face Georgia College State on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
