AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State’s Tyrekus “AJ” Bowman was named the Peach Belt Conference Player-of-the-Week on Monday, according to an announcement from the league office.
The award is the second of the month and second of the season for the 6-5 senior forward from Tignall, Ga. Bowman also earned the award on Jan. 7. The honor is the fifth of his career for Bowman, the reigning PBC Player-of-the-Year.
Bowman has produced his best numbers of the season in recent outings. He averaged 23.7 points and 9.7 rebounds in three wins last week. He began with 23 points and nine rebounds in the No. 13 Jags’ 75-59 win over fifth-ranked USC Aiken, notched 28 points and 12 rebounds at Francis Marion and posted 20 points and eight boards at Georgia Southwestern. He has scored in double figures in each of the Jags’ first 16 games this season and has cracked the 20-point plateau in eight of his last 10 games.
He also averaged 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 68.4 percent (26-of-38) from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range. Prior to Monday’s matchup with North Georgia, he ranked third in the PBC in scoring at 20.5 ppg and is second in rebounding and sixth in blocks and field goal percentage.
Bowman is the third Jaguar to win the weekly honor, joining frontcourt mates Garret Siler (Nov. 19) and Ben Madgen (Dec. 17).
