GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Augusta State jumped out to an early lead and never trailed Wednesday night, picking up a 77-49 Peach Belt Conference road win over Lander at Finis Horne Arena.

The victory marked ASU’s fifth straight win and gave the 12th-ranked Jaguars the season sweep over the Bearcats. ASU improved to 18-4 overall and 13-2 in the PBC, while Lander dropped to 9-12 and 6-8, respectively.

Senior Tyrekus “AJ” Bowman and sophomore Ben Madgen paced ASU with 15 points each, while junior center Garret Siler booked his seventh double-double of the season with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Bowman moved into sixth place all-time on the ASU career scoring charts with 1,572 points, surpassing former standout Oliver Ottley’s 1,570 career points.

Lander’s Houston Wright came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points, with no other Bearcat scoring more than six points.

ASU shot 51.9 percent from the field and outscored Lander 14-0 in the paint. The Bearcats managed just 27.9 percent shooting from the field -- a season low by an ASU opponent. Without Wright’s 8-of-13 shooting effort, Lander combined to shoot just 9-of-48 from the field (18.8 percent).

ASU, which improved to 9-3 on the road, held its fourth opponent under 50 points, including its third in conference play.

The Jags host Armstrong Atlantic State for Homecoming on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 6:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
