Madgen Named League's POTW
PBC award fifth for Jaguar men's squad in 2007-08

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State’s Ben Madgen was named the Peach Belt Conference Player-of-the-Week on Monday afternoon, according to an announcement from the league office.

The selection is the second of the season for the 6-4 sophomore guard/forward from Williamstown, Australia, who also earned the award on Dec. 17, 2007. The honor is the fifth of the season for the Jaguar squad. Senior forward AJ Bowman is a two-time winner (Jan. 7 and Jan. 28) and junior center Garret Siler was the PBC’s first honoree on Nov. 19. ASU and USC Aiken have combined to win 10 of the 11 weekly awards.

Madgen averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists in a pair of wins for the streaking Jaguars while hitting half of his three-point attempts. He began with 15 points and eight rebounds in a 71-49 win at Lander last Wednesday and followed that up with 20 points, three rebounds and seven assists in an 82-68 home win over Armstrong Atlantic State on Saturday, Feb. 16.

The 2006-07 PBC Freshman of the Year, Madgen also hit six of his 12 three-pointers for the week and shot 58% (14-24) from the field overall. Madgen is currently ranked seventh in the PBC in scoring and continues to lead the PBC in free throw percentage and rank 12th in the nation at .884.

The 12th-ranked Jaguars make their next-to-last regular-season appearance in Christenberry Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Feb. 20 when they host Francis Marion in a PBC contest at 7:30 p.m.
