AUGUSTA,
Ga. --
Augusta State maintained its position in the top 10 in the latest NABC/Division II Coaches Poll, released late Tuesday afternoon from the NABC national headquarters in Kansas City, Mo.
The Jaguars, who wrapped up a 22-5 regular season with a 1-1 record last week, are No. 10 in the country, slipping two spots from the No. 8 position they occupied the last two weeks. This week’s ranking marks a school-record 14th consecutive week this season in which the Jags have appeared in the national poll. They are one of two Peach Belt Conference teams to appear in the poll, with USC Aiken just ahead of the Jags at No. 5.
ASU began the season ranked sixth before moving as high as No. 5. After spending two weeks at No. 14, the Jags improved to No. 12 in the last poll prior to the holidays. ASU dropped to No. 22 after a loss at Tampa, moved back inside the top 20 to 18th and improved to 13th and then jumped up to 10th a month ago. The Jags fell to No. 16 before moving back up to No. 12 and then up to No. 8 two weeks ago.
ASU opens play in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., at the USCA Convocation Center in Aiken, S.C. The Jags’ opponent will be the winner of Wednesday’s first-round matchup between No. 7 Clayton State and No. 10 UNC Pembroke.
