Augusta State maintained its position in the top 10 in the latest NABC/Division II Coaches Poll, released late Monday from the NABC national headquarters in Kansas City, Mo.
The Jaguars are No. 10 in the country for the second straight week and for the fourth consecutive week, are ranked in the top 10. This week’s ranking marks a school-record 15th consecutive week this season in which the Jags have appeared in the national poll. They are one of two Peach Belt Conference teams to appear in the poll, with USC Aiken just ahead of the Jags at No. 6.
ASU began the season ranked sixth before moving as high as No. 5. After spending two weeks at No. 14, the Jags improved to No. 12 in the last poll prior to the holidays. ASU dropped to No. 22 after a loss at Tampa, moved back inside the top 20 to 18th and improved to 13th and then jumped up to 10th a month ago. The Jags fell to No. 16 before moving back up to No. 12 and then up to No. 8 two weeks ago.
ASU hosts the NCAA South Atlantic Regional this weekend at Christenberry Fieldhouse. Four quarterfinal matchups are slated for Saturday, March 15, with two semifinal games on Sunday, March 16 and the championship game on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m.
The Jaguars, the No. 2 seed, will meet Johnson C. Smith, the CIAA tournament champion, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
