Augusta State will make its 11th NCAA Regional appearance in the last 12 seasons Thursday when the
Jaguars tee off in the Southeast Regional at Red Tail Golf Club.The Jags will be the No. 7 seed in the three-day, 54-hole regional, which begins Thursday and runs through Saturday, May 16. The University of Central Florida and the Central Florida Sports Commission are serving as co-hosts.
Freshman Taylor Floyd will lead ASU out on the course at 9:20 a.m., off the first tee, followed by junior Jake Amos at 9:30, sophomore Carter Newman at 9:40 and senior Janne Kaske at 9:50. Sophomore Henrik Norlander, who leads the squad with a 71.71 stroke average, will anchor the Jags’ lineup at 10:00
ASU, which will be paired with Kentucky and Georgia Southern, will be making its first Southeast Regional appearance. The Jags took second in last spring’s East Regional in Chattanooga, Tenn., and made three straight trips to the East Regional between 2002 and 2004 before being shipped to the Central Regional in 2005 and to the West Regional in 2007.
ASU will be looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the 11th time in 14 NCAA Regional appearances.
The NCAA’s modified format for the postseason features six regionals around the nation. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, slated for May 26-30 at historic Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio and hosted by the University of Toledo.
