MACON,
Ga. --
Augusta State fired a six-under 282 Saturday to open up a nine-shot lead after the first round of
the Brickyard Collegiate Championship at the Brickyard at Riverside.
The Jaguars, who played alongside Clemson and Georgia Tech in the opening round, were the only team to shoot under par on the day. ASU was sparked by a 3-under 69 from sophomore Patrick Reed, a 2-under 70 from junior Henrik Norlander and a 1-under 71 from sophomore Taylor Floyd to go along with a pair of even-par 72’s from juniors Mitch Krywulycz and Carter Newman.
Reed, making his ASU debut, is part of a six-way tie for the lead while Norlander is tied for seventh and Floyd is tied for ninth. Krywulycz and Newman are tied for 16th.
Chattanooga and Virginia Commonwealth are tied for second, nine shots off the pace. Clemson, LSU and North Florida are tied for fourth, 11 strokes back of ASU. Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Penn State all round out the top 10.
Reed shares the individual lead with Georgia Tech’s John Tyler Griffin, VCU’s Lanto Griffin, Georgia’s Russell Henley and Virginia Tech’s Mikey Moyers.
The Jags are slated to be paired with Chattanooga and VCU for Sunday’s second round. Newman will lead ASU out on the course at 10:10, followed by Krywulycz at 10:20, Floyd at 10:30, Norlander at 10:40 and Reed at 10:50 a.m.
