Jaguars Climb Into Top 10
ASU men's golf program vaults up rankings after victory

ASUAUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State moved into the top 10 of the national rankings recently when the Jaguars climbed to No. 9 in the latest Golfweek magazine rankings.

Off the momentum of their 13-shot victory at the Brickyard Collegiate Championship in Macon, Ga., on Oct. 12, ASU jumped from No. 27 to their highest ranking since the 2004-05 season. The Jags also moved up to No. 15 in the Golfstat national rankings.

ASU began the season with a 10th-place finish in the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational and followed with a sixth-place effort in the Gary Koch Intercollegiate. Less than a week later, the Jags fired back-to-back rounds of six-under 282 and seven-under 281 at the Brickyard at Riverside.

Sophomore Patrick Reed tied for third at 4-under 140 while juniors Henrik Norlander and Carter Newman, along with sophomore Taylor Floyd, each tied for fifth at 3-under 141. In 10 rounds over the first two days, ASU posted nine rounds of even par or better, including eight sub-par rounds.

The Jags are back in action this weekend at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C. Forest Oaks Country Club, the former home of the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship, is the host venue for the tourney. Designed by architect Ellis Maples, the course underwent a major renovation by the Love Design Group in 2002.

The 54-hole, two-day event begins with 36 holes on Saturday, Oct. 24 and wraps up with a final round on Sunday.

Live scoring will be available at both www.golfstat.com  and www.aug.edu/athletics , the official website of ASU Athletics.
