AUGUSTA,
Ga. --
Augusta State opens its 2009-10 season on Friday, Sept. 18 in the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon.
Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com as well as the official website of Augusta State Athletics -- www.aug.edu/athletics.
The venue for the tournament, hosted by the University of Illinois, is located just outside of Chicago at Olympia Fields Country Club’s North Course, a 7,157-yard, par-70 layout.
The Jaguars, who are entering their eighth season under head coach Josh Gregory, are ranked No. 8 in the nation in Golfweek’s preseason poll while GolfWorld has tabbed ASU No. 26. The Jags return four starters -- including All-American and Palmer Cupper Henrik Norlander -- along with eight lettermen from last season’s squad.
ASU will face one of the top fields of any tournament in the country. Seven of the top 10 and 12 of the top 30 teams, according to Golfweek, are expected to compete. In addition, 14 of the top 30 individuals in the country will be in the field.
The Jags’ lineup will include senior Jake Amos, juniors Henrik Norlander, Mitch Krywulycz and Carter Newman along with sophomore Taylor Floyd.
The field for the three-day, 54-hole event includes ASU, Arizona State, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Northwestern, San Diego State, Southern California, Stanford, Texas and Wake Forest.
