The Augusta State men’s golf squad wrapped up its Fall, 2009 season by moving into the top 10 in both
Golfweek magazine’s national rankings and the Golfstat national ratings.
The Jaguars, who posted four top-six finishes and took fourth or better in each their last three events, are ranked No. 9 in two of intercollegiate golf’s most respected polls.
ASU began the 2009-10 season in September with a 10th-place finish at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational and followed with a sixth-place showing in the prestigious Gary Koch Intercollegiate.
The Jags registered their third victory of the 2009 calendar year and their 13th tournament win under head coach Josh Gregory when they captured the Brickyard Intercollegiate on Oct. 12 at The Brickyard at Riverside in Macon, Ga. Behind four top-five finishes from Patrick Reed, Taylor Floyd, Carter Newman and Henrik Norlander, ASU posted a 13-shot victory against one of the nation’s top fields.
The Jags then posted a fourth-place showing in the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate and closed out the Fall slate with a third –place effort in the Gifford Collegiate Championship at CordeValle, finishing behind only No. 1 Oklahoma State and No. 2 Stanford.
Individually, the Jags registered 12 top-20 finishes, including four from junior All-American Norlander, and two each from sophomores Floyd and Reed.
The Jags open their Spring, 2010 schedule on March 1 in the Seahawk Intercollegiate at Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
