Krywulycz's tie for 38th paces Jags in season-opening tourney

M GolfOLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Augusta State booked a final-round 298 Sunday afternoon in the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club.

The eighth-ranked Jaguars picked up one spot on the 15-team field, finishing alone in 10th place.

Junior Mitch Krywulycz carded ASU’s best finish, tying for 38th after a team-low 73. Junior Henrik Norlander (75) and sophomore Taylor Floyd (76) tied for 41st and senior Jake Amos (78) tied for 45th, while junior Carter Newman (74) was 52nd.

Second-round leader Arizona State (870/+30) combined for a 293 and claimed a two-shot victory over Oklahoma State.

Texas took third, five shots off the lead while Stanford and Florida State rounded out the top five. Oklahoma State’s Trent Whitekiller and Georgia’s Harris English shared medalist honors at 1-over 211.

The venue for the tournament, hosted by the University of Illinois, is located just outside of Chicago at Olympia Fields’ North Course, a 7,157-yard, par-70 layout. Olympia Fields hosted the 2003 U.S. Open, won by Jim Furyk.

The tourney featured one of the top fields of any tournament in the country. Seven of the top 10 and 12 of the top 30 teams, according to Golfweek, along with 14 of the top 30 individuals in the country, were in the field.
