Mercedes-Benz of Augusta provides Jaguar Golf with customized van

ASUAUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State Men’s and Women’s Golf programs were the recipients of a major donation Friday in the form of a state-of-the-art, customized van.

Ed Luckey, General Manager of Mercedes-Benz of Augusta, presented ASU Director of Golf and Head Men’s Golf Coach Josh Gregory with the keys to the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter during an 11:00 a.m., announcement in the J. Fleming Norvell Golf House on the Forest Hills campus off Wrightsboro Road.

“I can’t overstate the importance of what this means to our men’s and women’s golf teams,” Gregory said. “The support and generosity we receive from the Augusta community is, without a doubt, unmatched and today once again proves that point. This is a huge for recruiting and definitely a very big feather in our caps.”

University representatives, including President William A. Bloodworth and Director of Athletics Clint Bryant, were on hand for the special announcement, along with members of the Jaguar men’s and women’s golf teams and local Mercedes-Benz dealership officials.

The Sprinter van features an Arctic White paint scheme with an ASU graphics package that includes both the “Augusta State Golf” and “A” marks. The M2PV170 model vehicle sports a BlueTec SCR Diesel 6-cylinder engine with 188 horsepower at 3,800 rpm., a 5-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.

The Jaguar men’s golf team, currently ranked No. 5 in the nation, heads to San Diego, Calif., next week for the NCAA Regionals. The three-day, 54-hole event gets underway on Thursday, May 20 at Carlton Oaks Golf Course. (View Photos)
