AUGUSTA,
Ga. -- The 2006 Administaff Augusta State Invitational tees off
Saturday morning with several of the nation’s top golf programs in
action at Champions Retreat Golf Club.
The tournament, in its 28th year of existence and in its first year at Champions Retreat, will feature nine of the nation’s top 31 teams. UCLA, the fifth-ranked team in the nation, along with USC Aiken – the Division II’s top-ranked team, will play alongside host and defending champion Augusta State. The Bruins, Pacers and Jaguars will tee off on Holes 10-12.
The field includes a pair of NCAA Championships medalists in James Lepp of Washington and USC Aiken's Dane Burkhart. Lepp and Burkhart are two of four first-team All-Americans in the field, along with East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies and USCA's Scott Brown. Four of the top 15 teams from last spring's NCAA Championships are also in the field (Washington, Augusta State, Tennessee and Georgia Southern).
The full field includes: Augusta State, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, LSU, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Tennessee, UCLA, USC Aiken, Virginia Tech and Washington.
Saturday’s play will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start, with 18 holes scheduled for Sunday.
