ASU To Open Spring Season
Jaguars tee off Sunday morning in Myrtle Beach

Head Coach Josh GregoryAUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State men’s golf team kicks off its Spring, 2008 schedule on Sunday morning when the Jaguars tee off in the General Jim Hackler Championship in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

The two-day, 54-hole event gets underway Sunday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at the Tom Fazio-designed TPC of Myrtle Beach. The course is rated as one of the most difficult and best maintained courses.

Lamar is the tourney’s defending champion, while host Coastal Carolina will look to better last season’s runnerup effort. Former East Tennesssee State All-American Rhys Davies edged Lamar’s Dawie Van Der Walt by a single stroke for medalist honors.

The Jaguars will be paired with North Florida and Northwestern. In the lineup for ASU is junior Janne Kaske, sophomore Jake Amos and freshmen Carter Newman, Olle Bengtsson and Henrik Norlander.

ASU is coming off a solid fall season in which Amos and Norlander posted individual victories and the Jags posted a pair of top-five finishes in four events.
