AUGUSTA, Ga.-- After sweeping Newberry in Augusta last Tuesday, only the women were able to come away with a win on Friday, Feb. 10, when the Augusta State Jaguars hosted the Anderson University Trojans for a 2:00 p.m. dual match.

The ASU women (3-1) defeated Anderson in seven out of nine matches, with Anderson’s only wins coming in the fourth seed singles match and the second seed doubles match.

Newcomer Nathalia Rodrigues took the top spot in the singles competition, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Tamara Lawler. On the doubles court, the team of Rodrigues and Norma Rovira defeated Lawler and Elizabeth Walker 8-0 in the top doubles seed.

The ASU men (3-2) were able to take the top position on the singles court, with Lindy Blount defeating Philippe Magat, 6-3, 6-4, but they would only pick up one more singles win in the fifth seed, where Arthur Figueiro beat Raul Luna, 7-6, 6-3.

The Jags only doubles win came in the second position, with Blount and Figueiro defeating Carlos Sanches and Gustavo Carvalho, 8-2. This brought the final score of the men’s dual match to 6-3, with Anderson taking home the win.

ASU tennis will be back on the court on Sunday, Feb. 12, when they take on Fort Valley State in Fort Valley, Ga. at 2:00 p.m.
