AUGUSTA, Ga.-- The Augusta State men’s and women’s tennis teams both dropped dual matches to Georgia College and State in conference play on Monday, Feb 27.

Despite winning the top seeds in both the singles and the doubles competitions, the ASU men (5-3) only picked up on more win, falling to GC&SU 5-3 (the sixth seed singles match was not finished).

Lindy Blount took top honors on the singles court, defeating Rodrigo Yamanti in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. Blount has won his last five matches in the singles top position, and is 6-1 for the spring season.

The doubles top seed went to the team of Harry Hahn and Frederico Mendes, who defeated Marcelo Ferreira and Mariano Cebrian 9-7. The only other win for ASU came in the singles fifth position, where Arthur Figueiro beat out Scott Mcree 6-1, 4-6 (10-5).

In the women’s contest, the Bobcats swept the Jaguars (5-3), winning all nine matches. Anna Shchupak took the top spot in the singles competition, winning 6-3, 6-3 over Nathalia Rodrigues, and the team of Shchupak and Coline Martin won the doubles top seed 8-4 over Rodrigues and Norma Rovira.

Both the men’s and women’s teams take on USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. on Wednesday, March 1. ASU’s next home match is on March, 6, when the Jags host Mount Olive and Concord for a pair of dual matches. First serve against Mount Olive is 10:00 a.m., and the Concord match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
