AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State men’s and women’s tennis teams both swept a pair of dual matches against Mount Olive and Concord on Monday afternoon at Newman Tennis Center in Augusta, Ga.

In the first match against Mount Olive, the ASU men won all but the top seed in the doubles contest to take the match 7-1 (the singles sixth seed was not finished). Lindy Blount took the win for ASU in the singles top seed over Gabriel Garcia, 6-2, 6-2. All of ASU’s wins were in straight sets.

Next up, the Jaguars (8-4) rolled over Concord 9-0, again winning all matches in straight sets. Arthur Figueiro picked up his 10th singles win in a row, defeating Lester in the fourth position 6-1, 6-0. On the day, Concord won 10 games to ASU’s 96.

In the women’s matchup against Mount Olive, the Jags pulled off a 7-2 win. The top singles position went to Nathalia Rodrigues, who won 6-2, 6-1 over Lucia Henkle, and the top doubles spot went to Rodrigues and Norma Rovira, who defeated Henkle and Carol DeAro 8-3.

The ASU women (7-5) also dominated in their match against Concord, winning 9-0. The margin of victory was even greater than the men’s contest, with ASU claiming 96 games to Concord’s five.

The ASU tennis squads will be back on the court on Wednesday when they travel to Columbus, Ga., to take on Columbus State in conference competition. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
