COLUMBUS, Ga. -- After picking up a pair of non-conference wins against Mount Olive and Concord last Monday, the Augusta State men’s and women’s tennis teams both lost in conference dual matches on Wednesday afternoon to Columbus State in Columbus, Ga.

While the ASU men (8-5) picked up two wins in the singles competition, the Cougars claimed two of three on the doubles court to take the win 6-3.

Lindy Blount won his fourth straight in the singles top seed, defeating Razvan Druica 6-2, 6-2. Arthur Figueiro also continued his streak, taking down Alex Vasilescu 6-0, 6-4 in the fourth seed for his 11th consecutive win.

Blount and Figueiro teamed up to claim the Jags’ only doubles victory, winning 8-4 over Vasilescu and Daniel Aronowitsch in the three spot.

In the women’s competition, Columbus State dominated on both the singles and the doubles courts, winning the dual match 8-0 over the Jags (7-6).

The top singles seed went to Agata Polcyn, 6-4, 6-0 over Nathalia Rodrigues, and the top doubles position was claimed by Diana Gherghi and Raluca Moldovan, who defeated Rodrigues and Norma Rovira 8-2.

The ASU men will be back on their home court on Friday, March 10 for a match against J.C. Smith. Both teams will travel to Wingate, N.C., on Sunday, March 12 to take on Wingate in non-conference matches scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
