| ASU men's tennis sweeps Newberry, women win 7-2 |

AUGUSTA, Ga.-- The Augusta State men’s and women’s tennis teams both
won dual matches today against the Newberry Indians at the Newman
Tennis Center in Augusta, Ga.
The ASU men (3-1), who are currently ranked 26th in the nation, blanked
the Indians in Newberr
y’s season opener. Lindy Blount defeated Daryl
Van Vuuren 6-3, 6-1 to take the singles top seed, and the team of Harry
Hahn and Frederico Mendes beat out Van Vuuren and Scott Gates in the
doubles top position, 9-7.
For the women, ASU (2-1) swept the doubles contests, with Nathalia Rodrigues and Norma Rovira defeating Bethany Poppe and Isabel Kreidler, 9-7, and took the top three spots on the singles court. Rodrigues took the top singles position over Kreidler, 6-2, 6-2.
The Indian’s only wins of the day came in the women’s fourth and fifth seeds, where Chanelle Clare defeated Maria Zevallos, 7-5, 2-5, 2-6, and Poppe defeated Ashley Abrams, 6-4, 1-6 (12-10), respectively.
ASU will be back on the court on Friday, Feb. 10, when they take on Anderson College at home. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
