AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State Lady Jaguars defeated UNC Pembroke, 5-1 in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference tournament Friday, April 20 at Newman Tennis Center.

With the win, ASU improves to 15-7 overall, while the Lady Braves fall to 12-11.

The Lady Jags picked up three singles wins and won two of three doubles matches. The remaining three singles matches were not completed.

The ASU doubles tandem of Fernanda Chiaparini and Laura Ferreira won a tight 8-6 doubles match, while the team of Nathalia Rodrigues and Luiza Pires defeated Victoria Willis and Jennifer McPherson, 8-0. UNC Pembroke picked up the 8-5 win in the No. 1 doubles match, with Stacey Wood and Natalie Dies defeating Norma Rovira and Sarah Jegat.

ASU posted three straight-set victories in singles, as Pires defeated McPherson 6-0, 6-0, Jegat defeated Gabriela Vrana 6-0, 6-1 and Rovira knocked off Willis 6-0, 6-2.

ASU moves on to play USC Upstate later today at 5 p.m., while UNC Pembroke will play Lander Saturday at 5 p.m.
