ASU to face No. 9 USC Upstate in women's tennis Mid-Atlantic Regional

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Columbus State will host the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Women’s Tennis Regional on Thursday and Friday, May 3 and May 4.

Play in the regional gets underway Thursday at the Blackmon Tennis Center on the Columbus State University campus. CSU is hosting the event for the fourth straight year and will be looking for its fourth consecutive trip to the Division II Tennis Championships in Altamonte Springs , FL.

Ninth-ranked USC Upstate and No. 33 Augusta State will get things started at 12 noon on Thursday. The two are familiar foes from the Peach Belt Conference, having met two weekends ago in the PBC Tournament in Augusta in match the Spartans won 5-0. Seventh-ranked Columbus State will follow at 4:00 p.m. against No. 36 Erskine. The Fleet is out of the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference and will face CSU for the fourth straight year in the opening round of the regional.

The two winners will meet for the right to advance to the championship round on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Should CSU and USC Upstate meet, the match will feature a battle of top 10 teams and will be the third meeting of the season for the two squads. The Lady Cougars and the Spartans split the previous meetings by identical 5-4 scores.

Admission is free for the entire event at the Blackmon Tennis Center , located on Cougar Court , next door to Ragsdale Field and directly across from Woodruff Gym.
