Jaguars Dominate Saints
ASU men's and women's tennis defeat North Georgia, 8-1

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- In their first match of the regular season, the Augusta State Jaguars and Lady Jags, both (1-0), defeated the North Georgia Saints, 8-1 on Monday afternoon at Newman Tennis Center.

While the Lady Jags dominated doubles play, the men ruled the singles contests. Senior Lindy Blount, in the top position, defeated North Georgia’s Samuel Moore 6-3, 6-2. Sergi Mullor, Victor Meza, Arthur Figuero, Igor Vasconcellos and Frederico Mendes all won their singles matches making ASU 6-0 in singles play.

In men’s doubles, ASU’s Lindy Blount and Frederico Mendes took first, 8-4, and Victor Meza and Sergi Mullor claimed third, 8-0.

Nathalia Rodrigues and Laura Ferrera took the top spot in the women’s doubles play defeating North Georgia’s Lilia Tzuetanova and Maria Dreaden 8-3. Fernanda Chiaparini and Norma Rovira posted second, 9-8(6), and Sarah Jegat and Luiza Pires got third, 8-3. ASU took the women’s singles contest 5-1, making them 8-1 on the day and 1-0 on the year.

The Jags travel today to Newberry, S.C., for a matchup against Newberry College.
