AUGUSTA, Ga. - Augusta State’s season opener with Alderson-Broaddus has been cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Lady Jags were scheduled to play Alderson-Broaddus in a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and then take on West Virginia Wesleyan in a Sunday twinbill at 2:00 p.m., in Aiken, S.C. (MORE)

 

PBC Releases Preseason Softball Poll
Jaguars tied with GCSU to finish third in Peach Belt

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Augusta State was picked to finish third in the 2010 softball preseason poll, according to a vote of the league’s head coaches released on Wednesday by the league office.

North Georgia was picked to finish first and received nine of a possible 10 first-place votes to finish with 99 points, outdistancing Francis Marion in second place. Augusta State and GCSU were tied for third while Armstrong Atlantic State was fifth, one point ahead of USC Aiken in sixth. (MORE)

 

Verbeelen Honored With Top PBC Award
ASU outfielder named Scholar-Athlete-Of-The-Year

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Augusta State’s Angii Verbeelen was named the Peach Belt Conference’s Scholar-Athlete-Of-The-Year for 2008-09 at a special awards banquet at the league’s annual meetings late Tuesday.

 

Verbeelen, along with Lander’s Martyn Bell, were chosen by the conference’s Faculty Athletics Representatives, who looked at information on each candidate and based their vote on 50 percent academic accomplishment, 30 percent athletic achievement and 20 percent leadership qualities. The scholar-athlete award is the highest individual award presented by the Peach Belt. (MORE)
