AUGUSTA, Ga. - Augusta State’s Paige Phillips and Amy Dumas were recently named to the 2007 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NCAA Division II All-South Atlantic Region team.

Phillips, a senior first baseman, and Dumas, a junior right-handed pitcher, were two of 16 Peach Belt Conference student-athletes who were named to the all-region team. An eye-popping 11 of those players were named to the first team and are now eligible for All-America consideration.

Phillips, a first-team selection, led ASU in batting (.388), home runs (15) and RBI (43) and ranked among the PBC leaders in all three categories. Phillips was also named to the DAKTRONICS All-Region team as a second-team selection.

Dumas was tabbed a second-team pick after posting a 19-10 record with three saves and a 2.66 ERA. In 202.2 innings, Dumas recorded 307 strikeouts and allowed only 140 hits.

Dumas and Phillips were also all-conference selections prior to the Peach Belt Conference tournament two weekends ago.

2007 PBC Champions and PBC Tournament Champions Columbus State led the conference with six selections. PBC Pitcher of the Year Amber Browning was named first team along with Amber Lanier, Brittany Leverett and Erin Brown. USC Upstate also had four selections on the first team with PBC co-Player of the Year Vanesa Flores being joined by Shay Slater, Heidi Gibbs and Amber Patterson.

The other co-Player of the Year, USC Aiken’s Jessica Strickland, was also named to the first team along with ASU’s Phillips and GCSU’s Keidra Baitey.

The 2007 NFCA All-America team will be announced in conjunction with the 2007 College World Series in Akron, Ohio.
