AUGUSTA,
Ga. - The Augusta State Jaguars swept USC Aiken in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Jags took game one
12-2 in five innings and fought through 13 innings for a 3-2 victory
in game two.
In game one, Kayla Hicks hit an RBI double that started a six-run rally. Leann Barber walked to bring in Hicks, Angii Verbeelen booked a double driving in two, Ashley Roberts laid down a squeeze bunt to take the score to 5-0, and Amber Hunt singled to left to bring in the sixth run of the inning.
The Jags tallied four more runs in the third inning to take the score to 10-0. Jessie Sadlowsky, Roberts, Hunt, and Anna Tedder all plated RBI. ASU plated two more runs in the fourth inning with a two-run homer from Sadlowsky.
The Pacers answered back with a two-run homer from Toni Flessate in the top of the fifth but it wasn't enough as the Jags took game one 12-2.
For ASU, Amy Dumas earned the win with 13 strikeouts and only four hits. The Pacers' Kristen Cochran received the loss giving up five hits and six runs.
In game two, the Jags pushed through thirteen innings to take the win, 3-2. The Pacers plated two runs in the fourth inning with RBI from Megan Lakes and Sheena Blackwell to take a 2-0 lead.
ASU came back in the fourth with an RBI from Hunt and then another RBI in the fifth from Roberts to tie the score at 2-2.
The game was scoreless for seven innings to bring it to thirteen innings. With the bases loaded, Robbins walked to drive in the winning run for the Jags making the score 3-2.
The Jags' Kimberly Roberts took the win with seven strikeouts and only one walk in 7.2 innings. USC Aiken's Flessate received the loss pitching 13 innings giving up 12 hits and four walks.
The Jags return to action Friday, March, 7 when they travel to Francis Marion to play in a three-day tournament. ASU is set to play on Friday at 5:00 p.m. against Mt. Olive.
