ASU Sweeps Tournament Play
Jaguar softball goes 5-0 at Patriot Invitational

FLORENCE, S.C. - Augusta State won all five scheduled games this weekend at the Francis Marion Patriot Invitational Softball Tournament at Freedom Florence Recreational Complex.

On Saturday in game one, the Jags took on Adelphi University winning 8-4. Angii Verbeelen went 3-for-4 on the day while Amber Hunt, Anna Tedder and Amy Dumas all had multiple hits.

Dumas received the win for the Jags relieving Jacklyn Benenhaley who pitched three innings.

In game two, the Jags went up against St. Andrews beating them 9-1. Hunt, Tedder and Alyssa Pingree all had multiple hits with Pingree and Ashley Roberts booking homeruns, Pingree’s being a grand slam. Leann Barber also had a stellar day going 3-for-3.

Danielle Metzger received the win for ASU pitching all seven innings.

On Sunday, ASU went up against Kutztown for game three winning 5-2. Pingree tallied another homerun for the weekend while Dumas and Jessie Sadlowsky had multiple hits.

Amy Dumas received the win pitching all seven innings, striking out 14 batters while only giving up three hits.

In game four, the Jags matched up against West Chester downing them 16-2. Playing only five innings, Roberts went 3-for-4 at the plate. Benenhaley received the win for ASU pitching three innings and Kimberly Kennedy chipped in pitching two innings.

ASU captured their fifth win of the weekend with a forfeit from Belmont Abbey.

The Jags return to action Tuesday, Mar. 11, hosting Adelphi University. The first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Lady Jaguar Field.
