SAVANNAH, Ga. -
Sara Morris' RBI double in the bottom of the
13th inning pushed across the game's only run in Armstrong Atlantic
State's
1-0 Peach Belt Conference softball win over visiting Augusta State on
Monday afternoon. Natalie Vogler's three-run home run sparked the Pirates to a
5-2 win in game two, earning AASU the doubleheader sweep.
Morris' hit ended the longest game in Armstrong Atlantic State softball history as it capped a two-out rally for the Pirates in the bottom of the 13th inning. Tori Richter bunted her way on with two outs, then Kari Marsico lined a single to center field, bringing up Morris. The senior catcher short-hopped the left field fence with her double, scoring Richter with the game-winning run and making a winner out of Jacquie Crane (9-6), who scattering 10 hits in 13 innings, giving up just one walk and striking out four for the win.
Augusta State's Kimberly Kennedy (4-3) took the loss, giving up 10 hits in eight relief innings, including one run, while striking out six.
In game two, the Pirates snapped a scoreless tie in the third inning on Erin Billingsley's RBI double and a three-run home run by Vogler, which was more than enough for Sam Floyd (9-8), who hurled seven innings, giving up five hits and two runs while striking out three for the win. Jennifer Miller (3-5) took the loss for the Jaguars (23-15, 4-10 PBC), giving up five hits and four runs in four-plus innings.
Vogler finished the doubleheader with three hits and three RBI, while Morris went 3-for-9 with two doubles and Erin Billingsley also had three hits. Amber Hunt had three hits in her return to Savannah, including a solo home run, while Anna Tedder also collected three hits.
The Jaguars will be back in action Thursday, April 10 at 4:00 p.m. when they travel to Aiken, S.C. to take on the USC Aiken.
