AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State closed its 2007 home volleyball schedule Saturday by splitting a pair of matches at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Jaguars (16-16, 2-6 PBC) fell 3-2 to Armstrong Atlantic State and downed St. Andrews 3-1. ASU dropped the first two games before battling back to wins game three and four against the Pirates and forcing the decisive fifth game.
The victory over the Knights gave the Jags 16 wins, their most victories under third-year head coach Amber Glass and the program’s winningest season since 1999 when ASU posted 19 victories.
Sophomore Jessica Howard was one of four Jaguars to notch double-figure kill totals against AASU, pacing the squad with 22. Freshman Dianna Meyer carded a team-best .294 hitting percentage while junior Amy Hunt managed 15 kills and sophomore Rachel Dyer added 14 kills. Meyer, Dyer and Hunt all notched double-doubles as well. Senior Jessica Lowes booked a season-high 64 assists.
Armstrong’s Gwendolyn Clarke paced the Pirates (15-17, 5-3 PBC) with 19 kills and Brendyce Budd chipped in 11. Nicole Yates had a team-high 31 assists and Hannah Segebart tallied 52 kills.
ASU wrapped up the afternoon by rebounding with a 3-1 victory over St. Andrews in a non-conference matchup.
Howard racked up 23 kills and nine blocks while senior Rachel Marcy logged 12 kills and just three errors. Lowes was credited with 51 assists, giving her 115 on the day.
Lindsey Stansbury and Tara Lemieux recorded 16 and 14 kills, respectively for the Knights (10-23). Setter Jaime Hayes garnered 41 assists for the visitors and Galina Podolsky netted 10 blocks.
ASU closes out the regular season on the road next weekend, facing USC Aiken on Friday, Nov. 2 and Lander on Saturday, Nov. 3.
