AUGUSTA, Ga. --
The Augusta State volleyball program continued to make progress in 2007, in its third season under the guidance of Head Coach Amber Glass. The Jaguars finished 17-19 on the season, recording the most wins since 2000 when they went 19-18. The 17 victories also marked the most wins under Glass.
“I’m proud of the progress we made this year. We accomplished as a team what was necessary to keep climbing the ladder of success,” Glass said. “Our ladies laid a sound foundation that will certainly assist in putting us at the top of the Peach Belt Conference and the Southern Region in the seasons to come. Although I am sad to lose my seniors, who were such dynamic players, we are excited to return a young and exciting group of athletes.”
Sophomore middle blocker Jessica Howard was named an All-Peach Belt Conference selection and to the All-PBC Tournament team. Howard led the Jags with 469 kills, booking team best .274 hitting percentage on the season as well as notching a team high of 137 blocks.
Glass should welcome back six letterwinners and four starters from the 2007 squad. The Jags will have to replace senior setter Jessica Lowes, who tallied a school-record 1296 assists this past season, as well as senior outside hitter Rachel Marcy.
The Jags will return a solid squad that includes senior Amy Hunt, who will provide leadership to a roster that will consist of three juniors and three sophomores, most notably middle blocker Jessica Howard and libero Lindsey Weider.
