Jags Set To Face Lander
Quarterfinal matchup set for Friday night in Aiken, S.C.

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Third-seeded Augusta State takes on No. 6 Lander in the quarterfinals of Friday’s Peach Belt Conference Championships, hosted by USC Aiken at the Convocation Center in Aiken, S.C.

The Jaguars, in the midst of their second-winningest season in the program’s history, will take on Lander at 8:00 p.m., Friday night in the fourth and final match of the day.

The format for the 2009 tournament has been revamped, with the championship being extended to a third day. Instead of the first two rounds of competition on the first day, the four quarterfinal matches will be held Friday at 2:00, 4:00, 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. The semifinals are slated for Saturday at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m., respectively, with the championship match set for Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

ASU and the Bearcats split a pair of regular-season matches. Lander picked up a 3-1 win on Sept. 23 in Augusta. Less than two weeks ago, the Jags rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Bearcats on Oct. 28 in Greenwood, S.C.

With a victory over Lander, ASU will match the school record -- first set in 1995 -- for victories in a season with 23. The Jags will face the winner of No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic State and No. 7 Francis Marion on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.
