AUGUSTA,
Ga. - Augusta State head volleyball coach Sharon Bonaventure announced Tuesday the addition of Karolina Stenlund to the Jaguar program.
A 6-0 middle blocker from Beckman High School in Irvine, Calif., Stenlund became the first signee with ASU Volleyball during the Fall, 2009 recruiting period.
Stenlund was a two-time, first-team all-Pacific Coast Conference performer as well as a two-time nominee for the All-City Irvine team. Currently a member of the Laguna Beach volleyball club, she has helped lead her club squad to the Junior Nationals after taking third at the Far Western qualifier. Laguna Beach is currently ranked third in the Southern California standings.
“We’re looking forward to some great things from Nina,” Bonaventure said. “She not only hits from the middle position but also from the outside and right side as well. She’s also a very strong defender in the backcourt. Between Nina and returning junior Jessica Hanson, we’re looking forward to a having a great duo in the middle.”
Stenlund is joined in the ASU recruiting class by Andria Tagarelli and Mary Beth Ingram, a pair of Florida prep products.
The Jaguars return four starters and eight letterwinners from their 2009 squad that racked up 22 victories -- the second-most in school history -- and recorded the second-best turnaround in one season in school history.
