Lady Jags Finalize 2009-10 Schedule
Augusta State women's basketball program kicks off season on the road Nov. 18

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Fourteen home games highlight the 2009-10 Augusta State women’s basketball schedule, according to an announcement Thursday from head coach Tes Sobomehin.

The Lady Jaguars, who are beginning their second season under Sobomehin, tip off their 2009-10 campaign on the road on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn. ASU opens its home slate two days later on Friday, Nov. 20, when the Lady Jags host USC Aiken, Glenville State and North Greenville in the Lady Jaguar Tip-Off Classic in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

“We are very excited to host those three schools in our first Tip-Off Classic,” Sobomehin said. “Our non-conference schedule is going to prepare us well for the Peach Belt Conference with games against Carson-Newman, West Georgia, and a quality Division I Winthrop program. We are looking forward to the raised level of competition in the Peach Belt with the addition of Montevallo and Flagler and the new divisional alignment. Finishing near the top of the East Division will certainly have NCAA Tournament berth implications.”

The Lady Jags host Paine College on Thursday, Dec. 3 before opening their 18-game Peach Belt Conference schedule on Saturday, Dec. 5 vs. Armstrong Atlantic State in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Three home games highlight the holiday schedule, including a matchup with perennial league power Clayton State on Dec. 15 before non-conference tilts with West Georgia on Dec. 17 and Carson-Newman on Dec. 30.

The Lady Jags open the 2010 portion of their schedule with a Jan. 2 showdown at USC Aiken in the Convocation Center before PBC newcomer Flagler makes its first visit to Christenberry Fieldhouse on Jan. 6.

The Lady Jags play host to USC Aiken on Wednesday, Feb. 3 before entertaining Georgia College & State on Thursday, Feb. 11. Two days later, ASU welcomes PBC newcomer Montevallo to CFH for a Homecoming matchup at 3:00 p.m. The Lady Jags close out the regular season with Senior Night on Saturday, Feb. 27 vs. Lander.

The Marvin Vanover Peach Belt Conference Tournament, named for the former PBC commissioner and ASU head basketball coach and athletic director, is slated for March 3-7 and will be played in Aiken, S.C., at the USCA Convocation Center.
