Ga. Ė Columbus State shot 60 percent in the second half Saturday afternoon and posted a 62-46
Peach Belt Conference victory over Augusta State in the Lumpkin Center.
The Lady Cougars improved to 11-8 overall and 5-4 in the PBC, while the loss extended ASUís skid to 15 straight. The Lady Jags dropped to 0-10 in the conference and suffered its sixth straight setback in the series as well.
CSU all-conference performer Phebe Smith posted game-high totals of 17 points and nine rebounds and added two blocks and two steals. Kelsie Weynand booked 12 points and Nakita Holt notched 11 points and eight assists.
No Lady Jaguar reached double figures in scoring. Freshman forward Waneta Carlisle led ASU with nine points. Senior forward Kirsten Stallings managed seven points and five rebounds off the bench.
CSU jumped out to 9-0 lead in the first 2:33 of the game and took a 29-19 advantage into the half. The Lady Cougars then opened the second half on a 23-4 run in the first 8:18, moving out to a 29-point lead on two different occasions.
The hosts outscored ASU 36-10 in the paint and shot 52 percent in the game to just 26.4 percent for the Lady Jags. ASU suffered only 11 turnovers, a new season-low total.
The Lady Jags return home to host Peach Belt Conference rival USC Aiken on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 5:30 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse. (Box Score)
