Lady Jags Fall At UAB
Egardo paces Augusta State in exhibition loss

Blaire EgardoBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Augusta State women’s basketball kicked off its 2009-10 schedule Sunday afternoon with a 92-50 exhibition loss to UAB in Bartow Arena.

The Lady Jaguars, beginning their second season under head coach Tes Sobomehin, were paced by Blaire Egardo’s 12 points. A junior guard from West Covina, Calif., Egardo connected on a pair of 3-pointers and was the only ASU player to reach double figures in scoring. Sophomore forward Jenny Nixon grabbed a team-high six rebounds and freshman guard Candace Foster snagged three steals off the bench. Nixon and junior guard Briyana Evans recorded a pair of blocked shots.

Jala Harris scored a game-high 20 points and was one of five Lady Blazers in double figures. UAB forced 30 turnovers by the Lady Jags, while ASU forced the hosts into 24 turnovers.

UAB shot 45 percent for the game and limited ASU to just 28 percent shooting from the field. The Lady Blazers won the rebounding edge 58-38, including 24 offensive boards, and outscored the Lady Jags 48-10 in the paint. On an ASU roster that includes 11 newcomers, 13 different Lady Jags logged floor time and 12 played double-digit minutes.

ASU travels to Columbia, S.C., to take on the South Carolina Lady Gamecocks in an exhibition contest on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 7:00 p.m.

The Lady Jags open their regular-season schedule on Friday, Nov. 20 when they host the Lady Jaguar Tip-Off Classic in Christenberry Fieldhouse. USC Aiken, Glenville State and North Greenville round out the field for the two-day tourney that features a pair of games each day. (Box)
