Fla. - Flagler overcame a fast start by Augusta State to claim a 69-57 Peach Belt Conference
victory Wednesday night in the Lady Jaguarsí first visit to Flagler Gym.
With the victory, the Saints improved to 8-16 overall and 3-12 in the PBC. The loss dropped ASU to 1-24 on the season and 0-15 in league play.
Jalisa Foster led Flagler with 13 points, while Arianna Roper, Jen Mitchell and Adrienne Donelson combined for 32 points, including 11 each from Roper and Mitchell.
Junior shooting guard Blaire Egardo drilled a career-high six 3-pointers en route to a career-high 20 points to pace the Lady Jags. Senior point guard Eboni Davis booked 10 points, eight assists and three steals and senior forward Kirsten Stallings netted 12 points off the bench.
ASU jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first 4:12 of the game. The Lady Jags connected on five of their first six shots, with Egardo draining three straight 3-pointers in the first 3:32.
Flagler countered just as quickly, scoring eight straight to get within 13-12. Egardo canned another trey -- her fourth in the first 7:53 of the contest -- to put ASU ahead 16-12. After the teams traded baskets, Jalisa Fosterís layup gave the Saints their first lead at 20-18 midway through the first half, and they outscored ASU 10-4 to close out the half for a 30-22 halftime lead.
The Saints scored the first six points of the second half and extended their lead out to as much as 14 midway through the half. The Lady Jags pulled to within five on two different occasions after treys from Egardo and Davis, only to have FC respond with a 10-0 spurt to take a 66-51 advantage with 3:30 left.
Flagler shot 54 percent for the game, including 63 percent in the first half, to just 35 percent for ASU. The Saintsí bench accounted for 41 points.
The Lady Jags travel to Florence, S.C., to take on No. 19 Francis Marion on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 1:30 p.m., in Smith University Center. (Box Score)
