AUGUSTA,
Ga. - Nesha Smith has been named to the Augusta State women’s basketball coaching staff, according to an announcement Thursday from Lady Jaguar head coach Nate Teymer.
A four-year starter and team captain at Stetson University in DeLand, Fla., Smith scored 1,042 career points for the Hatters. One of only three women’s players in Stetson history with 1,000 career points and 400 career assists, Smith ranks ninth in Atlantic Sun history in steals and 11th in A-Sun history in assists.
Smith, a St. Mary’s, Ga., native who prepped at Camden County High School in Kingsland, graduated from Stetson in May, 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management.
“Our basketball family is very fortunate to have Nesha on our staff,” Teymer said. “She is going to be a rising star in the coaching profession. She brings a great deal of energy and passion for the game of basketball that will be very contagious. I am really excited about having Coach Smith on our staff.”
Smith will join former Lady Jaguar standout Deo Ngulela as aides to Teymer, who was introduced as the eighth head coach in ASU history on April 1. Teymer led Southern Tech (Southern Polytechnic State University) in Marietta, Ga., to a 30-5 record and to the Sweet 16 of the NAIA National Tournament in 2009-10. For his efforts, he was tabbed NAIA National Coach-Of-The-Year.
