North Greenville Holds Off ASU
Senior Brittany Jarrard tallies 14 to pace Lady Jaguars

AUGUSTA, Ga. – North Greenville’s Karly Stache scored a game-high 28 points Friday night to lead the Lady Crusaders past Augusta State, 73-65, in the first day of the Lady Jaguar Tip-Off Classic in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

With the victory, NGU evened its record at 1-1 while the Lady Jaguars dropped to 0-2. The contest marked the home opener for ASU.

Senior guard Brittany Jarrard came off the bench to pace the Lady Jags with 14 points, while fellow senior Kirsten Stallings added 12 points and freshman Waneta Carlisle managed 10 and a game-high seven rebounds.

North Greenville shot 52 percent in the second half and led by as many as 13 midway through the half. ASU closed within five at the 5:10 mark on a Carlisle free throw, but the Lady Crusaders responded with a an 11-4 spurt over a stretch of 2:06 to keep the Lady Jags at bay.

ASU owned the rebounding edge, 40-34, and got 26 points from its bench. Each team committed 29 turnovers, with the Lady Jags snagging 13 steals. Stache accounted for all eight of NGU’s 3-pointers, while ASU connected on just 4-of-15 attempts beyond the arc.

In the first game of the tourney, USC Aiken pulled away in the second half for a 93-77 victory over Glenville State behind a monster effort from Hannah DeGraffinreed. The sophomore transfer from Merrimack booked 27 points and 16 rebounds for the Lady Pacers.

The Lady Jags face Glenville State Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., with USC Aiken and North Greenville matching up at 4:00 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse. (Box Score)
